A Clinician’s Guide to Supporting Patients Undergoing Gender-Affirming Surgery
6 Lessons
This Webinar is designed to provide cultural context, practical advice, and trauma-informed interventions to mental health providers supporting trans & gender-diverse patients before, during, and throughout recovery from gender-affirming surgeries. Drawing upon best practices (including WPATH Standards of Care, version 8), case examples, peer-reviewed studies, and lived experiences, this training will equip clinicians to provide culturally responsive care and support clients through safer, smoother recoveries.
D. Hilton (ze/hir/hirs) is a LCSW specializing in trauma-informed care for LGBTQ+ communities. As a genderqueer person, D.’s most valuable education has been hir lived experience & time spent in community with others striving for self-determination. Transition has equipped hir with advocacy skills, system-savviness, and the desire to carve out smoother paths and construct stronger nets for those who come after hir. Ze serves as the Gender Navigator at St Francis Memorial Hospital, and aspires to expand hir community’s sense of what our options are, and what kind of care we deserve.
